Pause, undo, and discard mid-capture

You clicked the wrong thing, or you need to check your email in the middle of recording. None of that means starting over.

The badge is the control panel

While a capture is running, a red badge sits on the page showing the step count. It is not just an indicator: it holds every control you need, so you never have to hunt for the toolbar popup mid-flow. Drag it out of the way if it covers something.

  • Finish: end the capture, build the guide, and open it in the editor.
  • Pause: stop recording steps without ending the session. Nothing you click while paused is captured.
  • Undo: delete the most recent step. Press it repeatedly to walk back several.
  • Discard: throw the whole session away without creating a guide.

Everything here is also in the extension popup behind your toolbar icon, which is the fallback if a page ever renders over the badge.

Pausing to do something private

Pause is the right move any time you need to step outside the workflow: check a message, open a password manager, look something up. Steps stop being recorded immediately, and no screenshots are taken while paused. Press Resume and the step numbering picks up where it left off.

Undoing a wrong turn

Undo removes the last captured step, including its screenshot. If you clicked into the wrong menu and clicked back out, that is two Undos and the guide reads as if it never happened.

Undo works on steps that have already been uploaded, so it is safe to use late in a long capture. It is not a general edit tool though. For rewriting instructions or removing a step from the middle, finish the capture and use the editor.

If the recording seems to stop on its own

Chrome shuts down an idle extension worker on its own schedule, which is normal. Knovvy keeps the in-progress session in extension storage and re-attaches when the worker wakes, so a long pause, a navigation, or a browser hiccup does not lose your steps. If the badge disappears after a navigation, it comes back on the next page load with the count intact.
