Record your first guide
From an empty library to a finished, shareable guide with screenshots. This takes about two minutes and needs no editing to be useful.
Capture a workflow
Start the capture
Open the capture page in Knovvy and press Start guide capture. You can also start from the extension popup in your toolbar.
Switch to the tool you are documenting
Move to whatever tab or app the workflow actually happens in. Capture follows you across tabs and sites, so a flow that spans three tools is still one guide.
Click through it normally
Do the task the way you always do. A red Recording badge sits on the page and counts steps as they land, so you can see it working.
Press Finish on the badge
The guide is built and opens straight in the editor, already saved to your library. Nothing is public yet.
What actually gets captured
Each click and each committed form field becomes one step. For every step Knovvy stores a written instruction derived from the element you interacted with (its accessible name, visible text, or placeholder), a screenshot of the tab at that moment, and a highlight over exactly what you clicked.
None of this is inferred from pixels and none of it calls a model. It comes from real browser events, which is why the click targets are exact rather than approximate. That also means capture works identically every time, and works with no AI credits at all.
The badge hides itself for the split second each screenshot is taken, so it never appears in your images. If you see it in a shot, you are on an old extension build: update to 0.1.0 from the Chrome Web Store.
Your guide names itself
Every step carries the page title and hostname it happened on. Knovvy uses that to name the guide after the tool and the task, so you get something like "Create an invoice in Billing" rather than "Guide (7 steps)". You can rename it in the editor at any time.
Typing is collapsed, and secrets are redacted
Typing into a field produces one step when you leave the field, not one per keystroke. If the field looks sensitive (a password, a one-time code, a card number), the value is replaced with bullets in the step text and the field is blurred in the screenshot before it is stored.
What to do next
- Tidy the steps and annotate the screenshots, if the raw capture needs a nudge.
- Publish it and send the link, which is the fastest way to get value out of it.
- Export it to PDF, HTML, or Markdown, if it belongs in a wiki or a binder.
