MP4, MOV, MKV, and AVI all work. Anything that is not already MP4 or WebM is normalized during ingest so playback is smooth.
Choose transcription quality
Fast uses a smaller model and finishes sooner. Quality is the default and is worth it for anything you plan to publish.

Knovvy transcribes the audio, generates timed captions, writes a structured guide from the transcript, and produces a thumbnail and a share link.

Where the audio goes
Transcription runs on infrastructure Knovvy operates using whisper.cpp. Your audio is not sent to a third-party speech vendor. That is also why transcription is included in your plan rather than metered by the minute.
An imported video produces a guide from spoken words, which is inference from a transcript. A guide captured live with the extension is built from real click events, so it will always have more exact steps and real click targets. Import is for the library of recordings you already have, not a replacement for capture.
Plan requirements
Video import is a paid feature. Video minutes count against your plan allowance: 100 minutes on Starter, 1,200 on Pro, and 800 per seat on Team. See plans, limits, and billing for what happens when you approach a limit.
